Review: Freshly Picked Moccasins

FB6

I was so excited when I had an opportunity to review a pair of Freshly Picked Moccasins! I chose these lovely gold moccs for my 2 year old daughter Lucy (they come in so many other beautiful colors). As soon as she saw these gold beauties, she wanted to put them on and never take them off!

FB4

First, the moccasins are made of beautiful super soft leather! Lucy has been calling them her “fancy shoes”.

FB2

Second, the shoes have room to grow! I ordered Lucy a pair larger than she usually wears. The elastic around the ankle makes it so that the moccasins still are easy to wear and walk around in even with the extra toe room! This way we will get extra wear out of them as her food grows.

FP1

We honestly love these moccasins! We don’t splurge on much, but I can honestly say that these are so cute I am tempted to purchase another pair for my older daughter, Violet! Thanks so much, Freshly Picked, for these beautiful moccs!

P.S. Did you notice the uber cute leggings that Lucy is wearing? They are a collaboration between Gingiber + Czarina’s Project! You can purchase these adorable owl leggins by clicking here.

Inside The Shop: Magpie

Magpie Blog March 2014b

Hi readers!

This spring we are starting a brand new series of posts that features the retailers carrying Gingiber products. There are so many shops around the country that partner with us an we want you to know where you can go locally to see our products up close!

Our first shop featured is called Magpie and is located in Somerville, MA (just outside of Boston).

Magpie Blog March 2014

What is the inspiration behind the name Magpie?

Magpies collect random shiny objects to build their nests. We thought it was a fun way to describe our collection of interesting items.

How long has your shop been open?

Since October of 2004.

What types of items do you carry?

We carry a lot of different things; it’s pretty eclectic. We carry what inspires and excites us and that changes over time. In general we carry jewelry, some clothing (t-shirts and a curated selection of dresses, hats, etc), accessories such as bags and wallets, housewares like cocktail glasses and tea towels, personal care items like soaps and lip balms, even chocolate. We’ve been getting into chocolate lately – I think it’s the cold New England winter driving us to chocolate!

How would you describe your shop style?

Eclectic, irreverent, hip and funky.

Magpie Blog March 2014d

What inspired you to open your own shop?

I started Magpie with 4 friends after we had helped organize and participated in the first two Bazaar Bizarre craft fairs in Somerville. We were sitting around after the event and we were all very excited about the indie craft movement. It was pretty open back then, you could sell macaroni art and you could get into a craft fair. I still have a reproduction of an album cover by the band Wire that someone made out of macaroni. We wanted to keep the spirit of the Bazaar Bizarre going all year round so we opened the store – without any business experience! So the short answer is we were inspired by the spirit of the fledgling indie craft movement in Boston in the early 2000s.

What did you do before opening the shop?

I was a publicist in the music business. I worked with a lot of cool artists and bands and am really glad I did that for several years.

What exciting things are happening at your shop in the coming months?

We’re about to launch our new website! Plus we are planning on having more craft beer tasting events at the store. We did one for Valentine’s Day with a company called Pretty Things and it was a lot of fun. Beer and shopping go together like a horse and carriage.

Thanks to the owners of Magpie for sharing about their shop! We are proud to be carried in such a fine establishment and we hope that if you live near the shop you will take some time to stop by and see all they have to offer. Click here to access their Facebook page and get more information.

Have a happy week!

A Lovely Night at The Social Club

I was so thrilled when The Social Club asked if they could display my 52 Weeks of Dogs series in their adorable shop. They’ve been one of our favorite local to Oklahoma retailers and it was so fun to spend some time there! We got free cake, champagne, and it was so rewarding to see every single one of the 52 dogs on display in one place.

So many thank you’s to everyone who came out for the fun. It was a blast!

We were so busy yesterday with all the to-do’s of opening the new shop that we forgot to share our joy on the blog! The blog on which we’re really going to try and be more active on, by the way.

Have you stopped by to see it yet?! We’re completely in love with it and are so overwhelmed by the encouragement from so many people. To all of you who have stopped by, a huge THANK YOU from the Gingiber team!

Giveaway Information!

15

Good lovely evening to all of you! We at Gingiber hope that you’ve all had a productive and beautiful day!

Things have been shaping up quite nicely here in small town Oklahoma with our preparations for the new shop that opens in less than one week now!

To celebrate we’ve been having some amazing giveaways over on Instagram and will continue to have even more as we draw closer to the big day!

We’re here tonight to just share a little more information about those giveaways in order to try and simplify things.

Step 1. Follow us on Instagram so you can see what giveaways we’re offering. Self explanatory right?

Step 2. Re-post that image (screen cap it, save it, download it…whatever floats your boat!) with the hashtag specified. Each day will be different yet similar so be sure to pay attention!

Step 3. Follow the fabulous maker we’ve teamed up with that day!

Step 4. A week from the day we originally post that particular giveaway is when a winner will be chosen at random. So stand by with eager anticipation until we announce a winner.

A couple answers to questions we’ve been getting:

Q: I’m overseas. Can I enter?
A: Abso-friggin-lutely! Without a doubt.

Q: How many times can I re-post and enter?
A: We’ve decided on once a day until that particular giveaway has ended. So post to your heart’s content!

Please feel free to ask any and all questions here on the blog or via Instagram. Just keep in mind that it may take us a tiny bit to get back to you since things have been wonderfully busy here!

Good luck and thank you to all of you for your incredible support. We couldn’t do it without you!

New Shop News!

Happy Friday, Friends!

I hope you all had as productive and beautiful of a week as we’ve had here in Oklahoma. The weather has been absolutely wonderful, despite the crazy wind.

We have some exciting Gingiber news that we wanted to share with you! Ready? Drum roll, please…

We’re so thrilled to start this new adventure and are just days away from it all!

As a way to say thank you to all of you that have supported us through the years every purchase from the new site in its first week will receive one of these lovely 5×7 prints.

So mark your calendars for March 3rd! We’ll be ready and waiting for you!

P.S. We think that may have been a tiny bit of confusion with all the shop announcements that have been happening on Instagram and other social media. Gingiber isn’t currently planning on opening up a brick and mortar store. We hope no one’s bubble has been burst too terribly! Maybe some day fate will work its magic and that’ll happen. For now though we’re just excited to have an e-commerce home to call our own!

Quiet October

11f5e36c376911e3bc4e22000aaa05b3_7

I thought it was time to blog. Since we moved to Edmond, OK I pour myself into work. My little home studio is filled to the brim with pillows, cardboard boxes, and prints. I rarely leave my house unless I am picking up the girls from Kid’s Day Out or meeting a seamstress to pick up pillows.

Oh, pillows. I have a love/hate relationship with them. The pillows are one of my favorite products, but the demand has been so much higher that I have spent most of my work time sewing. Even though I have the help of a PT seamstress, it takes a lot of time. I did, however, hire another helping hand today! I am hoping to be able to offer the pillow wholesale again next week.

I’ve poured so much time this year into making Gingiber a more professional brand. I am so proud of it! I love it when people respond positively to my work. I have had some dream collaborations in the works, plus an opportunity to branch out into licensing my artwork. Something I am very excited about!

When you are so married to your art, the ebb and flow of business feels so personal. A good day of business makes me feel like I am on cloud 9. A slow stretch of sales results in self deprecation.

I just want to provide for my family. I want to feel rooted. We might be moving again this summer since Nathan’s job is only good through May. I don’t want to connect like I should in OKC because it will be harder to say goodbye when we move again.

Right now I am sitting in Lucy’s nursery watching her play. I wish there was some formula for success. Some way to make sure that everyone’s needs are met. To make sure that I am taking care of myself so that I can be the best me possible. Sometimes I feel like we will never be settled. That I’m not meant for real relationships with friends. Somehow I missed the memo about how I am supposed to be around other people.

At least my dog likes me. And my girls think that I am okay. Any my husband loves me. And I have Gingiber.
