nwa boutique show next weekend!

All! I know that my posts have been sparse this week, but that is because I have been busy preparing for my upcoming show here in Northwest Arkansas. I have a booth at the NWA Boutique Show in Springdale, Ar. I am rather pumped about it, as this is supposed to be a HUGE show! I have absolutely no idea if I have made enough product, but am hopeful that this show will be better than my last… meaning that I will sell product to people other than my relatives (seriously).

My Springfield, Mo friends and family: if any of you feel like making a quick 2.5 hour drive to the Springdale Ar Holiday Inn Convention Center, that would totally rock my face off!

Admission is free, and I am certain that there will be TONS of goodies perfect for Christmas Presents!

I am steadily working on my new booth (making it more sturdy, because last time a ran into some hiccups) and hoping that I have enough merch!

Thanks for all of your support, friends! I so appreciate and cherish the encouragement from my blog friends!

violet’s birthday party

Sunday we celebrated Violet’s 2nd birthday, and it was such fun! All of her grandparents were there, as well as her aunt and uncle (and honorary aunt Vicki). The party was full of handmade decorations, homemade cakes (her daddy made 2 cakes!) and so much love for this little girl.

 The Birthday Wreath
 The Precious Birthday Girl
One of the Homemade Cakes, garnished with pretty flowers

Birthday Bunting (re-used from last year)
 Mason Jar Candle Holders
Pretty When Lit to say “Violet”
I made some garlands by cutting up old Anthropologie Catalogs into circles and sewing together (the patterns are so pretty)

I handmade this felt star garland in pretty colors for Violet’s Party!

Right before we sang “happy birthday” (Violet tried to grab the fire! We all were quite frightened, but Violet did not notice!)
Mom, Violet, and my sister, Angie
Violet and Chad playing in Violet’s new Play Kitchen
My sweet sister (who is expecting in February) and I in an unusually flattering picture of the both of us!
Thank you all for leaving sweet birthday wishes for Violet over the weekend. She is such a special little lady, and I am thrilled to be her mommy!

ikea chair cover

Yesterday was Violet’s family birthday party (post coming tomorrow) and I decided that I would finally work on some little decorative details for my dining room (a party is a good reason to get my rear into gear).

Violet has an ikea booster chair that sits at our dining table. It is cute and simple, but I wanted to cute it up a bit. Solution: Simple Chair Cover!

It took me all of 10 minutes to cut the fabric (left over from Violet’s crib skirt), sew it on both sides, and add some red bias tape around the edge to create the perfect cheery spot for Violet to set in!

I think that she likes it, don’t you?

happy birthday, little girl

 Dear Violet,

Today you turned 2 years old, and my heart has never been this full!

I remember the day I found out I was pregnant with you. I had hurt my back, and had to go see a doctor for the pain. X-rays were needed, so the doctor simply asked, “There’s no way, you could be pregnant, right?” I immediately said “Nope. No baby here!” The x-rays were taken, powerful pain killers were prescribed, and I could not wait to alleviate the pain!

I noticed on the side of the bottle a warning about taking the pills if you could be pregnant. Your mommy is a bit of a worry wart, so even though I thought that there was NO POSSIBLE WAY I was pregnant, I had your daddy go to the drug store and pick up a pregnancy test.

Did you know, Violet, that on that very day, your daddy had been installing a new toilet in our only bathroom? So guess where your mommy took the pregnancy test? That’s right, squatting in the backyard (Note to any potential future buyers of our Springfield home: everything is sanitary, I PROMISE!)! Your daddy was with me, keeping a look out for neighbors, when I laughed and said, “Wouldn’t it be hilarious if I was pregnant! Ha ha ha………. Nathan, um…. look at the stick.”

It was positive.

“Take another test!” insisted your father! And so we did. And so it was positive. And so our lives began to change for the better.

You, little Violet, have taught me how to love more than I ever knew my heart could hold. You, Violet, have reminded me of the joy of sitting on the floor playing with toys, and that sometimes, all we need is each other to get along. I love your runny nose kisses. The way you hold your daddy’s and my hand when we walk into daycare every morning. I love how much you love your grandparents. I adore how all of your stuffed animals, whether it be “Cow” or “Bunny” are all called “Puppies” when you snuggle with them at night.

On election night, 2008, I began to feel the intense back labor pains, and knew that at any time, you would be born. As we watched the election results on the television, I laid on a mattress on the floor of the living room, thinking of you. As the contractions grew to be 3 minutes apart, we drove to the hospital. I knew for sure that the next time I came home, you would be in my arms. Until triage asked if I lived near by, because it was a busy night, and they thought that it would be a while until you were born. They told me to get some sleep. The nerve of those people! Had they ever taken a nap during back labor?

At 10 A.M. the next morning, Nathan and I drove to my regularly scheduled Dr. appointment. The contractions had not let up through the night, and I was in agony! Oh, Violet, you should have seen me in the waiting room, moaning in pain, leaning against the wall as I felt every contraction. The other pregnant women in the waiting room were most likely horrified! Soon you would come.

When the doctor finally saw me, he said that it was very rare for a woman to give birth on her due date (Which was November 5th). Then he examined me and said “Congratulations, kids! You are having a baby today!

I will spare you the details of epidurals, nausea, relatives who could not understand that I needed to be alone, etc. and tell you that just before midnight on November 5th, you were born. You had dark hair and eyes, looked just like your father, and where very focused on the world around you.

My little girl. You were and are perfect. God surely knew that your daddy and I needed you in our lives. You are the funniest, friendliest, most caring girl I know.

Thank you, Violet. You are my best gal pal.

mind your music: florance and the machine

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m not always the most proactive when it comes to new music (very uncool, I know). I can hear a name floating around, download the CD, and still not actually listen to it for a while simply because it doesn’t strike me at the time. Gems sit right under my nose for weeks and then one random day I’m in love.

And recently, it’s Florence and the Machine.

Dog Days Are Over
Who Are They: Haven’t heard of them? It’s okay because the British bombshell is hitting Stateside fast and furious. Topping the charts in the UK since last summer, singer Florence Welch began the band almost as a solo project, but the fresh sound exploded and a tour demanded a (now) more consistent full band. Her voice and music is something familiar yet inspired in a combination of blues/rock/folk that’s infectious.

Favorite Song: Currently I’m preferring the more ruckus songs on the album, however the slower ones have a delicacy that I’m sure will quickly become just as listened to. Florence and the Machine makes you want to be that girl – the one whose ease and sexiness is dressed down in messy hair, holey jeans, and the open road. It’s like the warm smell of pipe smoke and a dark, earthy laugh. That kind of desert goddess blazing in a sunset.

Kiss With A Fist
Makes Me Think Of/Feel Like: Beautiful and broken heroines, autumn winds, breezy cool glances, and the hippie chic glamour of Project Runway Winner Gretchen Jones (who, by the way, did deserve to win)

Photography to see: Sofia Ajram and Janelle Dry

Do not deprive yourself of the awesome that is Florence and the Machine … because one music procrastinator is bad enough.

Oh, Colin Firth, my husband does not mind that I have been in love with you since I was 12. Perhaps he won’t mind if I use your face to wash the dishes? Level the playing field? This is at the top of my wish-list for Christmas this year.
