And Now For Something Completely Different: Antler Animals

Okay, these aren’t completely different from my existing body of work, but they are a bit more sophisticated with their stark color pallet. Each antlered animal has a different pattern illustrated on their bodies. A bit hard to see in the initial photos, but here are the close ups:
I especially love the Caribou (they are like reindeer) because the diamond motif reminds me of snow falling on his back.
I decided to have a small run of square tea towels produced with the Caribou illustration. They should be available later this month. Even if no one else likes them and I end up giving them all away as Christmas presents, I really love the design.
Blank note cards will also be available of these illustrations.Β
I truly wanted something that felt a little more “grown-up”. I started sketching these over the summer when I stayed the week at a cabin in Branson, MO. Glad that I pulled out these unfinished illustrations and gave them some life.
Thanks for reading,
Stacie

Today In The Studio

Ah, who doesn’t enjoy a graining iPhone preview of new illustrations? Working on a new series of illustrations. I really really like them. They seem a little more sophisticated than some of my other pieces.
Have an amazing evening. My kids are asleep and I have the night to sketch πŸ™‚

Cross Deer Illustration

I took several of these deer prints to Indie Emporium and they were well received. So I have listed them in the shop.
It is hard to see in this initial photo, but there is some lovely detailed illustrative work going on here, if I do say so myself! The colors are gold and black. I desperately wanted to have this design letterpressed, but it was not meant to be πŸ™
Anyways, I am looking forward to drawing some more serious animals πŸ™‚ I do love a cross deer.Β
Hope that you like it!

Indie Emporium Recap

I spent the weekend in Tulsa, OK as a vendor at Indie Emporium. This was my 1st out of state craft show, and it was fantastic!
The show was busy. Super busy. Which is fabulous. And I got to meet so many online friends in person. I had a table set up and was so thrilled with how my products were received. I spend so much of my time in my office, isolated from people. Just getting out of my element and watching people’s faces as they walked up to my booth reminded me why I do what I do. I love making art that people also enjoy!
My onesies were a hit! I was thrilled with how many sold! With any new product, there is a bit of a financial investment. Now I have broken even on that front. Which feels really really good. Many people really enjoyed the new Tis The Season Deer illustration. I am excited to explore this style a bit more in the future.
Oh, and actress Juliette Lewis came by the show and bought several items from my pal Kate of Little Things Studio! I was soooo thrilled for her! Kate and I are pictured above.
But, probably the highlight of the entire show for everyone who attended was my amazingly awesome allergic reaction to cilantro. It is so strange, but I never knew I was allergic until Saturday afternoon when I had 2 cilantro chicken tacos for lunch. Emphasis on cilantro. I became violently ill,Β which resulted in my having to be away from my booth for hours.Β
How did I not know I was allergic? Well, my mom is allergic to cilantro, so she never cooked with it growing up. My sister is allergic, too. And now that I think of it, any time I go to a Mexican restaurant and eat salsa, I get ill, too… No time like the present to discover a new food allergy.
As I told my new Indie Emporium friends, the way you get to know me best is if I am vomiting in the bathroom πŸ™‚Β
Onto other highlights, while I was sick and unable to run my booth, my darling sister took care of everything for me. She is a great little saleswoman, and graciously opted to stay the entire day with me at my table instead of going home to her own family. She is the best. I love her so much!
Sunday morning several of the artists met up for brunch. I had a blast being with everyone and just hanging out!Β
That is my little recap. I feel better now that all of the cilantro is out of my system πŸ˜‰ Thanks to everyone who dropped by my table to say “hello”! Cannot wait for next year.

Tis The Season Holiday Cards & Some Rambling

Tis The Season…. To Be Jolly Cards are now available in the shop
Available in packs of 8 or individually, these illustrated cards are filled with beautiful detailing and gold and black hues. They are perfect card for the holidays.
Lately, well, I guess I should say, constantly, I work. I draw. I fill orders. I package. I plan new product. Fill wholesale orders. Return emails. Pretty standard for a small business run out of a spare bedroom.
I’ve been thinking about my future. And I know that I next year I am going to make some changes for a better balance in my life. Not sure exactly how it will look, but I want to enjoy life a bit more. Rarely do I really get dressed in the mornings, instead slouching around in pajamas or jeans and a shirt, running around, not able to give either my business nor parenting my full attention at any single given time.
I am still planning how next year needs to be different. More time for drawing. More time with my kids. Maybe actually hiring some help. Just a little help with packaging.
I’ve also decided not to do any more “flash sales” online. I just finished up a Fab sale. And it went really well. But I knew going into it that it would be my last. For many reasons. Business reasons. Personal reasons. But regardless, I just cannot afford to do them anymore. The prices are so low to customers because I make very little money per item (we are talking only $2 on some items) on the sales. I’ve always liked the idea of reaching a broader audience with these sales, while also allowing long time customers a chance to own Gingiber items for much less.
Now, as I am expanding my wholesale side of business, knocking on retailers doors, working on licensing some of my art, I do not want to “cheapen” my brand. I want to strengthen it. These flash sales are good. Especially for me who had invested quite a bit of money in new product development and needed some money quickly. But now I need to think about the big picture.
Thanks for reading, friends. Sometimes I just like to write it down. Put it out there.
Hope that you like the new Christmas Cards,
Stacie

New Fox Onesies in The House

I’ve just added a new fox onesie design to Gingiber!Β
Pictured above is a delightful orange and white fox on a berry onesie

And then we have have aΒ neon yellow and grey fox on navy onesie.Β
I love them. All babies should have at least one fox onesie in their wardrobe. And these foxes are super awesome! So you should purchase your dapper toddler this particular onesie.
Then again I have been working on them for a while, so I may be biased. Plus I’ve had like 4 cups of coffee today powering through deadlines. So I might sound a tad bit intense πŸ˜‰

Whatcha think?
