Making a Dress?
I love pretty dresses. But I really don’t like trying them on (who’s with me, ladies?). I have 3 favorite dresses (2 of which are pictured here) that I wear practically every time I see someone and want to look dynamite. All 3 are cut very similarly with an empire waist and a skirt that falls just to my knees.
So it hit me that perhaps I should try to use one of these dresses as a pattern and simply make my own! Wouldn’t that be lovely? I am no professional seamstress, but I think I will give it a shot, just to say that I tried (and possibly add to my wardrobe). Plus I could use pretty fabrics and feel uber posh. You know, because French Posh Chic is very in this season, no? (kidding)
Have you ever thought about starting from scratch and making a garment?
i do it all the time!! YOU CAN DO IT! 🙂
Sewing is like the great unknown to me. I’ve never tried it! My mom is so incredible, so I always have her hem pants or fix seams or whatever I’ve needed sewn before. But deep down I really want to give it a try. I should probably start with a pillow or something first before diving into a dress!
Kim! Thanks for the encouragement! I am really going to try!
Les, seriously your mom is so stinking talented! She is like the craftiest mom I know! And you are super creative (love the furniture you have been refinishing). The apple does not fall far from the tree! Miss you cousin!
I keep trying to sew my own clothes, if nothing else but for the sheer comedy factor. I made myself a pair of pajama pants a couple of months ago and accidentally sewed two left legs…. Yeah.
I passed on the “Stylish Blogger Award” to you over on my Blog http://deerlittlefawn.blogspot.com/2011/01/stylish-blogger-award.html
When I started sewing clothes for myself I started with something simple- skirts. Go for it!!!! You will never know if you don’t try. Go for though a simple pattern that is not to complicated so not to frustrate yourself before you get to see your potential!
Thanks for the encouragement, freaked out and artsy momma! I am definitely going to try!
Deer Little Fawn, Thank you for the Stylish Blogger Award!
